How to make halftones over a linear layer on photoshop : a tutorial for laura and anyone else who ain’t got the time nor money to spend on zipatone:

1. for b&w dots make sure you are working in grayscale or bw mode, not cmyk/rgb. otherwise it will truly be a color halftone

2. make new layer (make sure it is above the linear layer); with paint brush (or whatever tool), select grey tone (or color) you want to use, and then draw/color in over area you want to be half-toned.

3. under “layers” in the sidebar, please change from “normal” to “linear burn” — this should make linear layer visible beneath your gray coloring

4. remaining in grey-color layer, go to “filter” in toolbar, then go to “pointilize” and then to “color halftone”
