i think if someone is using a swastika next to their artist signature when their art is otherwise apolitical than that’s a really really lame attempt at provoking their audience. if the aim is to provoke, the artwork should be able to do it on its own. just tacking an offensive symbol next to your name or title of your work to make yourself seem cutting edge just seems like a sad call for attention and a cop out to me. curious to hear if people agree with this or not, happy to debate this further since i’m just processing pdfs for the next 2 hours at work.
*also, no, i am not saying artists “should not be allowed” to use offensive symbols, but i do think they should be able to justify their use. i mean, come fucking on.
